Photographer Georgina Campbell takes us on an Icelandic journey

7 October 2015

Photographer Georgina Campbell takes us on a journey through the otherworldly landscapes of Iceland in her exhibition, Open your mind - Tread softly.

The exhibition title comes from a signpost found on a walking trail on Hrísey, a tiny island off the north coast of Iceland, where the artist undertook a residency in 2013.  The area is known for its abundance of natural energy that is able to replenish both the mind and body through close proximity to this landscape.

Utilising time-lapse, video, computerised images and sculptural forms, these works seek to find tangible evidence of this energy via the visual exploration of natural phenomenon. In essence they are a record of events that are fleeting, yet still manage to remain distinctly personal.

A graduate of Monash and Deakin Universities, Campbell has been active since 2001 with her work being featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Melbourne and abroad.

Campbell will be joining curator, Julie Skate, on a talk and tour about contemporary art on Saturday 24 October, 3-4pm. Open your mind - tread softly is on display at The Gallery @ BACC from 3 October - 8 November, 2015.
