Last Stage of Bayside Bay Trail to Proceed with VCAT approval

31 October 2012

The final stage of the Bayside Bay Trail along Beach Road between Cromer Road and Charman Road in Beaumaris will proceed early next year after the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) gave the project its planning approval after a hearing on 10 October.

VCAT affirmed Bayside City Council’s decision to issue a Planning Permit for the removal of vegetation to allow the project to proceed.  The conclusion of VCAT was that no matters were raised during the course of the hearing that required changes to the Permit issued by Council.

It is anticipated that, weather permitting, site work will begin by February 2013.

The Trail design was agreed by Council, VicRoads and the Department of Sustainability and Environment.  The plans include the replanting of vegetation to replace that which is required to be removed to allow the 3 metre wide Trail to be constructed.

When completed, the Trail will provide a continuous safe and accessible bicycle and pedestrian path across the City of Bayside from Brighton to Beaumaris.
