Council to Host Community Open Day at Billilla Studios
Billilla Artists in Residence studios are open to the public on Saturday June 22, providing an opportunity for art lovers to learn, peruse and admire art works within the artists’ creative spaces.
Mayor Cr Stephen Hartney said that the open day presents a rare chance for the curious to enter the creative spaces of artists and catch a glimpse of the stories behind their works.
“Visitors can explore the residency project, talk to the artists and find out more about Billilla Artists in Residence program from Council staff,” he said.
This year's mix of disciplines includes sculpture, painting, installation, ceramics and writing. Visitors will be able to interact with the 2012/13 artists in residence:
Pauline Luke – author.
Sherrie Knipe – sculptor.
Anna Rowbury – visual artist; and
Heather Swann – sculptor.
Located behind Billilla Mansion in the former servants’ quarters and surrounded by historic gardens, these studios are to be named on the day after significant Bayside artists as follows:
Lenton Parr, Sculptor;
Alan Marshall, Writer;
Clarice Beckett; visual artist;
Percy Grainger, Composer; and
Lloyd Tayler, Architect
The Bayside community is invited to attend the open day and find out what each artist has experienced in their time at Billilla, have a coffee and wander throughout the gardens and meet the incoming artists who have been offered a 2013/2014 residency.
