Council Launches draft Recreation Strategy….. and the community is invited to participate

Members of the Bayside community interested in the future of the City and its vast array of recreational activities and facilities are invited to review Council’s draft Recreation Strategy.

The draft Recreation Strategy was developed to guide the community’s recreational needs over the next ten years and summarises research and extensive consultation findings gathered over the past 18 months.

The draft Strategy outlines Council’s role as encouraging and supporting local recreation by:

  • Strategic planning and policy development.
  • Service and facility management, maintenance and development.
  • Marketing and promotion including research, needs analysis and communications.
  • Liaison, support, consultation and advice to key stakeholders; and
  • Advocacy with State and Federal Governments and associations relating to Bayside’s sport and recreation needs.

Once completed, the Recreation Strategy will guide the planning, management and provision of recreation facilities and services across the City.  It will also detail the future direction for recreation in Bayside.

Mayor Stephen Hartney said that the abundance of recreation facilities makes Bayside a special place to live so it is vital that members of the community convey to Council what is important to them and how they would like to see recreation managed in the future.

“Bayside’s recreational facilities and services support a diverse range of users which raises a mix of challenges to balance and manage competing demands and aspirations,” said Mayor Hartney.

“The Recreation Strategy will address  the current aspirations of the community and the future needs of emerging recreation trends.”
