New Director Appointed for the 2013 Bayside Film Festival

Bayside City Council announced today that Richard Moore has been appointed Artistic Director for the 10th Bayside Film Festival.

A former Director of the Melbourne International Film Festival, Richard Moore’s most recent appointment was as Head of Screen Culture, Screen Queensland and Artistic Director of the Brisbane International Film Festival.

Moore was a practising documentary film maker from 1990 to 2000 before taking up the position of Executive Producer TV Arts with ABC TV. In 2006 he was appointed Executive Director of the Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) and in 2010 Artistic Director of the Brisbane International Film Festival (BIFF). With both festivals Moore was responsible for the curating of the film program as well as developing a series of talks, workshops and special events.

Announcing the appointment, Mayor Stephen Hartney said Richard brings a real passion and vision for the future of the Festival.

“I am very pleased that he has accepted the challenge to lead the Bayside Film Festival into its next decade,” he said.

Richard Moore responded saying that as a resident of Bayside he is very excited to be working on our local film festival.

“I am a firm believer that we can reinforce this Festival, with its focus on new and emerging documentary filmmakers, as a niche event on the Melbourne film calendar.

“I am particularly interested in the abundance of great local stories and characters and in encouraging filmmakers, through our Youth Documentary, Digital Stories and Jump Cut programs, to explore their local environment for inspiration.”

The Bayside Film Festival will be held at the Palace Brighton Bay Cinema from 28 to 31 August 2013.
