A new Significant Tree Management Policy for Bayside
4 September 2013
A new 2013 Significant Tree Management Policy, adopted by Council at its August meeting, will deliver a consistent and equitable approach to the management of significant trees on private and public land across Bayside.
The draft Policy underwent a community consultation process during June that included feedback from local aborists and friends and society groups with an interest in trees and vegetation.
The new Policy, an update of the 2000 Bayside Register of Significant Trees Management Policy, covers the 82 trees currently listed on the ‘significant tree register - all except three are located on private property.
Whilst public and private trees throughout Bayside are protected under the Bayside Local Law or the Bayside Planning Scheme, the new 2013 Policy is designed to effectively administer the addition or removal of a significant tree on the Significant Tree Register and assist Council to retain Bayside’s tree canopy, which contributes significantly to neighbourhood character.
