Respite care

Respite Care provides assistance to the carers of frail older people, people suffering with dementia or a related illness and people of any age, including young children with a physical, intellectual or sensory disability.

Qualified staff undertake the role of the primary carer so you can have a break from your caring responsibilities. The service provides time for the primary carer to participate in family, social, recreational, personal or community activities.

The service is available seven days a week for regular or occasional bookings.

Costs

Fees are based on an hourly rate in accordance with your annual income. Additional fees are charged for travel related kilometres. To make a payment, view the Pay a health or community care bill information.

How to apply

Anyone can apply by making a referral for the service, including yourself, a relative or friend, a nurse, a general practitioner or another service provider.

Council staff will arrange a convenient time to visit you at home to discuss the service and obtain necessary information.

You may have someone with you during this visit if you wish, perhaps a family member or friend.
