OFF-LEASH DOG CONTROLS EFFECTIVE 1 DECEMBER 2006

After a lengthy review process, Bayside City Council has adopted new regulations for dogs which become effective from 1 December 2006.

A small section of beach near the Hampton Life Saving Club was declared completely ‘dog-free’ during the peak period of 1 November to 31 March, and three beaches were declared dogs off-leash all year round.

The new controls are a balance aimed at ensuring that dog lovers have plenty of space to exercise their dogs, while those who want to avoid dogs can still enjoy the beach without worrying.

Of course, the inter-tidal rock platforms in the Ricketts Point Marine Sanctuary remain dog-free at all times to protect the sensitive nature of this environmentally significant area.

Everyone is encouraged to become familiar with the requirements at the beaches and parks near their homes, and keep an eye open for the new signs that will communicate the new zones.

Copies of the new maps can be obtained by calling Council on 9599 4444 during business hours.
