Lost animals

If your animal is microchipped and registered with Bayside City Council, you will be immediately contacted (using details supplied at the time of registration).

If you have not been contacted by Council, check the Impounded Animals section of the website to find out if your animal is being held in the pound.

If your animal has been impounded, the animal will be kept at Council's 'Day Stay' facility in Sandringham (until the end of the day).

If no contact has been made with the owner and the animal has not been claimed, the animal will be transported to Council's Animal Pound at South Eastern Pound Services located at 920 Thompsons Road, Cranbourne (T: 9702 8055).

Whether your animal is being impounded or not, contact Council on 9599 4444 with the following details:

  1. Date the animal was lost
  2. Your name and address
  3. Your contact telephone number
  4. The breed or type of animal
  5. The sex of the animal
  6. Identification (e.g. tag number or whether animal was wearing a tag or microchipped)
  7. Any distinguishing marks/features

Costs for pound release

  • Dog release fee: $60
  • Cat release fee: $33

Proof of registration must be supplied at the time of collecting the animal by way of Registration Certificate.

If you do not have a certificate the South Eastern Pound Services will contact Council and verify registration over the phone.

If your animal is not registered you must register at the time of collection.

South Eastern Pound Services have the appropriate forms and are able to accept payment on Council’s behalf.

Payment can only be made by cash or credit card.
