Help for Wildlife

Aware (Australian Wildlife Assistance Rescue Education)
AWARE is a volunteer group of wildlife carers rescuers and shelters formed to address the issues of the wildlife in the sandbelt region of Melbourne Victoria, covering the area between Melbourne and Frankston including Oakleigh, Springvale, Dandenong and Cranbourne.

Wildlife Victoria is dedicated to the care and protection of Australia’s native wildlife through the pursuit of the highest standards in wildlife rescue, rehabilitation and care, with continued commitment to carer support, education and training, wildlife advocacy, research, promotion of partnerships and the preservation of natural ecosystems
Murrumbeena Wildlife Shelter
The Murrumbeena Wildlife Shelter will deal with animals and birds which Council are unable to help with, such as:
- rabbits
- snakes
- possums
- ducks
- pigeons
- galahs
- gulls
- magpies
They are not able to help with stray/injured cats or dogs but Council's Local Law Officers can help here.

South Oakleigh Wildlife Shelter
South Oakleigh Wildlife Shelter is a voluntary non-profit organisation that rescues, rehabilitates and releases native wildlife, such as:
- magpies
- possums
- lorikeets, cockatoos, galahs, corellas and other wild birds
- lizards
- turtles
- all other wildlife except snakes which must be captured by a registered snake handler
South Oakleigh Wildlife Shelter also helps to educate schools in learning about our wildlife and also what to do in the case that they find injured wildlife.
