RESONANCE MUSIC SERIES 2013
Bayside City Council is proud to present the Resonance Music Series for 2013.EARLY MUSIC IN THE VERY ROUND
Presented by: Bayside City Council & the Early Arts Guild of Victoria
Don’t be misled by the odd title. It hides a treasure trove of old-world sights and sounds - as well as theatre experiences - that are new to many concert-goers. While quality is the keynote, this series thrives on the amazing variety to be found in the colourful arts of the medieval, renaissance and baroque eras.
This is the thirteenth year of the project which is prepared for Bayside City Council by the Early Arts Guild of Victoria under the direction of Helga M Hill OAM. As a new initiative Resonance will also be associated with 6 regional concerts to be held at the magnificent Sacred Heart Cathedral in Bendigo & the beautifuly preserved Wesley of Warragul. More>
While *Early Music in the Very Round aims to entertain, it also has a strong educational component, with music students given the opportunity to see and hear instruments that date back hundreds of years. At the same time, young actors and vocalists can encounter the power of the rediscovered Art of Gesture.
To enhance the educational impact, artists are generally available after concerts to discuss historic instruments, costumes or period performance techniques.
Early Music in the Very Round is the nation’s first concert series to provide the full spectrum of early music and instruments, historic dance, court costumes and the Art of Gesture. Programs are usually of one hour duration. More>

*The unusual name Early Music in the Very Round arose from the small glass rotunda at Brighton Library which was the venue for the series until 2005. By that time audiences of 30 to 40 had grown to over 100 patrons crowded into the rotunda and well into the library.
