Bayside Composer in Residence
Evan Lawson & Forest Collective

Forest Collective, led by Evan Lawson Artistic Director, was established as an artist collective by a group of emerging performing and visual artists in 2009 to facilitate thrilling cross-pollinating events in unorthodox venues and performance contexts. Forest Collective became a not for profit, multi-disciplinary arts organisation in 2012.

Since its first season Forest Collective has gone on to sell out performances at Melbourne Recital Centre, La Mama Court House, National Gallery of Victoria, Abbotsford Convent, Burrinja Cultural Centre and as a part of Metropolis New Music Festival and Melbourne Fringe Festival.

Program 2 - Evan Lawson & Forest Collective:

Allotropy with Rosemary Ball

Program update - 26/08/2016

"We are disappointed to announce that due to severe sickness Rosemary Ball will be unable to perform this weekend with Allotropy! The performance will still be going ahead as planned with some minor changes.

Evan Lawson's new work, Sirens, was originally conceived without voice, and will be performed by the quartet alone. Paul Stanhope's Sea Chronicles will now be performed by the remarkable Soprano, Sian Prior.

Allotropy! is delighted to perform the world premiere of Joe Chindamo's new string quartet The Fitzroy Tales - Six Scenes for String Quartet and the Australian premiere of Thomas Larcher's Madhares, along with Dulcie Holland's Salute to Jacques for string quartet.

Allotropy!'s two surprise guests are Emma Hunt on violin (currently touring with Melbourne Chamber Orchestra) and Michelle John (a well known freelance cellist with groups such as Orchestra Victoria and who has a keen interest in new music), who will perform with Kat Tsyrlin (violin) and Beatrix Pickett (viola).

"Here's to all things new and old, and the fusion of the two!" - Kat Tsylin, Allotropy!

We wish Rosemary the very best in her recovery and look forward to seeing you all on Saturday to experience the other amazing works on the program."

Saturday 27 August at 2:15pm

Brighton Town Hall, Cnr of Wilson and Carpenter Streets, Brighton

Allotropy Pop-up String Quartet will be joined by soprano Rosemary Ball in a concert of works featuring Australian and world premieres including Sirens by Evan Lawson.  Sirens draws upon the ancient story of Orpheus and is based on section of the odyssey where Orpheus saves the members of the Argonaut from the singing of the sirens by playing the lyre.  This work explores the sirens - putting each member of the string quartet and the soprano in locations around the room from where they call back and forth to each other.

This program is a community art project by Evan Lawson, ‘composer in residence’ at Bayside City Council’s Billilla Mansion Artists’ studio’s program in association with Bayside’s 2016 Resonance Music Series.
