Small boy wading in the sea
The Beaches of Port Phillip

Swim, fish, dive, cycle or ramble. With more than 260 kilometres of coastline and an area 35 times the size of Sydney Harbour, there's endless scope to discover the Bay's treasures. On, in, under or by the waters, there's something for everyone.

Swim at any number of safe, sandy bay beaches from St Kilda, Sandringham, Beaumaris, Seaford, Frankston and Rye to Queenscliffe, St Leonard's, Indented Head, Portarlington and Eastern Beach. Take the family along - they'll love it! Travel across the water on the car and passenger ferries between Sorrento and Queenscliffe. Cycle the bay trail and take a punt on the crossing near the Westgate Bridge.

Dive the depths of the bay and around its notorious "rip" entrance to unlock the secrets of many ships that have slipped down to watery graves. There are also reefs rivaling the colour and beauty of the Great Barrier Reef and teeming with undersea life. Snorkel the shallows or venture into deeper water.

As the tide recedes, reefs and rock pools reveal their bounty from starfish to sea urchins. Ramble about, look but please don't disturb or remove these living creatures.

Enjoy your own slice of boating heaven. Take off from any one of scores of well-maintained ramps dotted around the coast. Invite the wind into your billowing sails. You'll find plenty of breeze to send you sailing across the glistening Bay in a yacht or on a wind surfer.

Hook up with some fishing fun. Drop a line or take to the water in a boat. There's a good chance you'll catch a tasty treat from snapper to squid - to grace your plate.
