Bayside City Council provides building permit and inspection services within Bayside. Council can issue permits for new dwellings, units, alterations and additions, commercial and industrial projects. Residents can also receive advice on building regulations, siting provisions, modifications and appeals.

The Urban Strategic Planning unit also plays an important role in managing urban change across Bayside by providing for an appropriate mix of land uses, a high quality urban environment, and the protection and enhancement of Bayside’s environmental and cultural heritage values. These goals are pursued by providing direction for the future use and development of land involving the application of zones, overlays and local policies; ongoing monitoring and refinement of the Bayside Planning Scheme; key projects, studies and strategies; identification of properties and areas of environmental and heritage significance; and addressing State and Federal Government planning policies and initiatives.
