BAYSIDE City Council has closed off sections of Bayside’s foreshore, which were severely damaged by the gale-force winds Melbourne experienced on 25 and 26 April 2009.
The storm conditions caused extensive damage to the Brighton and Black Rock foreshore areas.
Sections of the shared path in Brighton were lifted, beach sand has been lost and excessive amounts of rubbish and seaweed have been deposited.
The Black Rock seawall was severely damaged and the promenade path, path wall, beach access ramps, cliff face retaining walls, and seats were damaged.
Council is working with its contractors to carry out the necessary works as soon as possible. For the safety of the community Council has closed off damaged areas.
The seawall, which is the responsibility of the Department of Sustainability and Environment, has advised Council that they will undertake inspections, this week, to prioritise and commence a program of reparation.
Bayside City Council will keep residents informed of the progress via the In the News section of the website and would like to thank residents for their patience.
