Bayside City Council is spending more than $2 million
on upgrading, replacing and maintaining footpaths throughout the municipality in the 2008/2009 year.
About 23 kilometres of footpath will be constructed before June 2009 across the municipality. Sections to be replaced are identified through Council’s Pavement Management System, which takes the condition, material and age of the footpath into consideration, as well as the results from
on-site inspections.
Some property and shop access may be affected at times, but safe pedestrian access will be maintained. Council will notify residents and traders, by letter, before the works commence in their street or shopping centre.
Residents will be asked to ensure that their vehicles are not parked on the side of the street that the work is being undertaken.
Residents will also be asked to give details of any sprinkler systems that have been installed in their naturestrip. Council and the contractors will not be held responsible for any damage to sprinkler systems that have not been reported.
