Students to have their say on the future of Bayside’s young people - Wednesday 04 November 2009

Secondary school students in Bayside will come together to discuss the needs and vision for the future of 10 – 25 year olds on Tuesday 24 November.

High schools across Bayside will send student representatives to a Bayside City Council forum to help discuss and develop Council’s Youth Services Strategy 2010-2013.

The Strategy will identify key service planning issues to enhance the wellbeing of young people 10 – 25 years and their families living in the community.

Bayside City Council Mayor Cr James Long said the forum will provide an opportunity for high school students to have a say on what they believe can be achieved to continue to enhance the wellbeing of young people in Bayside.

“Since August Council has been speaking to and hearing from different groups in the community who are passionate about creating a positive future for young people in Bayside,” Cr Long said.

“Already, Council has run community consultation sessions with primary schools, service providers and parents and has invited young people, their families and the broader community to have their say on the Strategy via the Youth Services online survey.

“Now we’ll be able to hear directly from secondary students in Bayside through this forum and ensure they have an input in the development of Council’s Youth Strategy.

“Young people are the future of our community. It is essential we have the best services for them today and in the future.”

Bayside City Council’s Youth Forum will be held on Tuesday 24 November from 9:30am – 12.30pm at Brighton’s Courthouse Youth Centre, 75 Carpenter Street.
