Bayside City Council is donating $25,000 to 10 local service clubs to assist them in providing relief to bushfire-affected communities.
After the Black Saturday fires on 7 February, Council assisted in various ways, including meeting with Bayside service clubs to better understand how Council could help, redeploying 15 Council staff to affected communities and raising money through donations at the Bright ‘n’ Sandy Festival.
Bayside Mayor Councillor James Long said Bayside organisations, schools, businesses and residents had responded swiftly to the Black Saturday fires that claimed 173 lives.
“Council feels that donating to specific service organisations, which have direct involvement in the recovery of local communities is the quickest and most effective way of making a difference,” Cr Long said.
A presentation to the 10 clubs will be made at a reception:
