An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced registered Building Surveyor to work in the Building Department and being involved in the mentoring and developing of junior staff, in the assessment of development proposals and in carrying out fire safety inspections on high risk buildings within the municipality.
Reporting to the Manager Building/Municipal Building Surveyor, the role is primarily responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Building Department, providing guidance
and advice to the building staff to ensure professional standards are maintained, responding to customer service requests, and ensuring that Councils statutory
obligations are being met.
The successful applicant will posses:
- Detailed knowledge and understanding of the provisions and underlying principles of the Building Act, Building Regulations, Building Code of Australia
and related statutes.
- Ability to communicate specialist information in a clear and concise manner to the organisation and Council’s clients.
- Ability to apply analytical and investigative skills to resolve issues and assist in the development of policy.
- Advocacy skills in representing Council before tribunals, panels and the courts.
- Practical experience in the building surveying industry.
- Staff supervisory experience over several years in a team environment, including the completion of staff performance plans.
- Mentoring and staff development.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Well-developed conflict and problem resolution skills.
