Bayside City Council is spending $2.184 million on upgrading, replacing and maintaining footpaths throughout the municipality during the 2009/2010 financial year.
About 22 kilometres of footpath will be reconstructed before June 2010. Sections to be replaced are identified through pro-active surveillance, customer enquiries and Council's Pavement Management System, which takes into consideration the material and age of the footpaths.
Residents and traders will be notified, by letter, prior to works commencing in their street or shopping centre. Some property and shop access may be affected at times but safe pedestrian access will be maintained.
Parking
Residents will be asked to ensure that their vehicles are not parked on the side of the street where work is being undertaken.
Naturestrip sprinkler systems
Before work commences, residents are asked to provide details of any sprinkler systems that have been installed in their naturestrip. Council and the contractors will not be held responsible for any damage to sprinkler systems that have not been previously reported.
