Mums and babes get together - Friday 20 June 2008

MUMS and expectant mums under 25 can join in Bayside City Council’s free Mums and Babes program, which runs every Tuesday (starts 15 July) between 1pm and 2pm at the Peterson Youth Centre (Melway 77 B8).

Bayside Youth Advisory Group member Councillor Terry O’Brien said the arrival of a baby can be a rewarding but a challenging time.

“The Mums and Babes program is a wonderful opportunity for young mums to meet other mums and their bubs and support each other as well as speak to a maternal and child health nurse.

”It’s also a good excuse to get out and have some fun,” Cr O’Brien said.

The maternal and child health nurse can provide information, guidance and support on issues that include:

  • breastfeeding and lactation advice
  • child health and development
  • maternal health
  • parent child relationships
  • safety and injury prevention
  • immunisation
  • nutrition
  • infant sleep and settling techniques.

For more information on the Mums and Babes program contact Bayside City Council’s Youth Services Officer Michelle on (03) 9599 4622.
