Have your say on Beaumaris Reserve - Wednesday 11 June 2008

THE draft of the Beaumaris Masterplan is now available for community viewing and feedback.

The draft Masterplan, which is available on Council’s website www.bayside.vic.gov.au, at Bayside library branches and the Corporate Centre, proposes the future direction for the facilities at the reserve and management of the open spaces.

Moysey Ward Councillor John Knight said Beaumaris Reserve was a popular place for residents, community groups and visitors.

“We want to improve the Reserve’s facilities to better meet the needs of the existing sports clubs, community groups and residents while maintaining and creating areas using native vegetation and landscape design themes to retain the Beaumaris character.

“The draft Masterplan presents a vision for Beaumaris Reserve that Council can work on during the next five to ten years,” Cr Knight said..

Some of the recommendations include:

  • Create a ‘Village Green’; as a focus for the reserve and community gatherings.
  • Create better links to the Beaumaris Library.
  • Develop a public sculpture garden.
  • Refurbish and upgrade the northern playground.
  • Landscape refurbishment and re-plant formal garden beds.
  • Install patio and seating.
  • Improve car park.

“When planning the concepts we tried to ensure that all interests and future needs of the community were understood. I encourage all park users to have a look at the draft Masterplan, and let Council know what you think,” Cr Kinght said.

Submissions to Council on the draft Masterplan are to be received in writing before 5pm on Friday 5 July 2008.
