Are you an aspiring poet, blogger or crime writer? Would you like to write for radio and stage or produce your own CD? Or perhaps just want some tips on starting a book club?
Then hotfoot it to the second annual Bayside Literary Festival, which runs from Friday 22 May until Sunday 31 May. Nearly all the events are free.
More than 30 events will take place at Bayside libraries, Black Rock House, Mordialloc Neighbourhood House, Longbeach Place Neighbourhood House and the Historical Societies at Brighton and Sandringham.
Writers, authors and poets will present at the festival, telling their stories and giving tips on how to get started in publishing.
The festival also caters for children, with young writers’ and cartooning workshops, puppet making for primary school children and the chance to take part in a national simultaneous story time.
Bayside Mayor Councillor James Long said the Literary Festival was a great opportunity to bring the community together and tap into inner creative talents.
“People can explore their writing abilities, listen to authors and presenters speak about their work and experiences, and just be creative,” he said. “Many people harbour the desire to write but don’t feel confident enough to try – the festival offers the chance to get advice and meet like-minded people.”
People can pick up a full list of events from the Bayside Literary Festival website or any Bayside Library.
The Bayside Literary Festival is a joint initiative by Bayside City Council’s Library Service and local literary groups.
