Merindah Park remediation works - to safely treat and where necessary, dispose of contaminated soil in accordance with Environment Protection Authority (EPA) - are now expected to be completed by the end of November 2009.
The remediation works will continue to be implemented in consultation with an EPA Accredited Environmental Auditor.
Some of the treated soil will be retained on-site and will be covered with a one-metre covering of resh soil, which will allow for future planting in this area.
The soil being retained on-site has been treated to the standards prescribed by the EPA. Extensive testing has also been conducted to ensure that the treated soil poses no risk to the environment as assessed against EPA Guidelines.
Community engagement on the replanting and landscaping of the park will commence once remediation works are complete.
