Bayside City Council is renovating and extending its Corporate Centre building to accommodate staff who have been in temporary offices for more than 10 years.
The building has been designed in accordance with environmentally sustainable design principals that include:
- automatic lighting
- automatic cooling and heating
- controlled natural light
- rainwater collection for toilets and irrigation
- windows that open for fresh air and heat release
- change rooms to encourage staff to cycle to work.
A number of trees have been removed to allow space for the Corporate Centre extension and access to the work site. Each tree will be replaced as part of the Royal Avenue masterplan that is currently being undertaken.
Construction activities are restricted to within the fenced construction area and the remainder of the Royal Avenue Reserve remains available for use by residents.
Entrance to the construction site is located off Royal Avenue, adjacent to the Royal Avenue Tennis Club car park.
Architectural firm Bligh Voller Nield Architecture designed the new offices with George Rydell Construction Pty Ltd undertaking construction of the facility. Council expects the works to be completed by April 2010.
