Resonance Music Series to be held in Brighton - Wednesday 29 April 2009

STIMULATING, memorable and rarely heard works feature in the Early Music in the Very Round concert series over the next four months.

The Resonance Music Series – now in its ninth year – is a significant part of Melbourne’s historic music scene. The Early Arts Guild of Victoria, with Helga Hill as artistic director, arranges the program.

The next concert is Tenebrae Responsories. Composed by Caro Gesualdo (1550-1613), the work has been described as “memorable music of the soul”.

Bayside Mayor Councillor James Long said that the concert program grew in popularity each year and urged newcomers to experience the music.

“The Early Music in the Very Round program is always a great success and draws large audiences from Melbourne and beyond to enjoy the performances by established artists and young musicians and singers,” he said. “I really encourage residents and visitors to attend Tenerae Responsories or any of the other concerts in the series.”

The concerts will all be held at St Cuthbert’s Presbyterian Church, 10 Wilson Street, Brighton at 2.15pm on the first Sunday of each month.

  • Tenebrae responsories: 3 May
  • Delicious!: 7 June
  • Naples circa 1730: 5 July
  • Concert a deux: 2 August
  • Organ centenary: 6 September

Admission is $5 for adults, with those under 18 free. Bookings are not required.
