Nine councillors represent the City of Bayside.
Each Council represents an individual ward with an average of 8000 electors.
Councillors meet on a weekly basis to represent the interests of ratepayers and residents in the local community. Council is the formal decision-making body which approves the budget, sets rates and charges for the year and fulfills statutory obligations as laid out in the Local Government Act 1989 and other legislation.
Council operates according to the Local Laws which outline the procedures Council must follow in its formal decision-making. Councillors adhere to a Code of Conduct which assists them in meeting their responsibilities and to ensure their conduct is legal, ethical and appropriate at all times.
At the Council elections held in November 2005, Councillors were elected for a term of three years. The next election will be held in November 2008.
Current Councillors Allowance is $15,000 per annum.
Current Mayoral Allowance is $46,500 per annum (plus a fully maintained motor vehicle).
