Councillor Briefing Guidelines

Name: Councillor Briefing

Classification: Informal Councillor Briefing

Delegation: None

Scope: The Councillor Briefing is an informal meeting of Councillors which allows open and free discussion on items that are of a complex nature or are significant community issues. 

It also provides an opportunity for Councillors to discuss items in detail that are recommended for decision at forthcoming General Committee and to provide information for noting.  

The Councillor Briefing is not a decision making forum.  

Membership: All Councillors  

Chairperson: The Mayor or his nominee

Stakeholder staff representatives: Executive Group, Governance Manager, other managers as appropriate.

Current or anticipated role of staff member in the committee, working group etc: To take notes, prepare agendas and present items and provide advice where appropriate.

Meeting Frequency: Once each month

Timeline for Involvement: Ongoing. Review Date: 1 December 2005

Any other relevant information (eg decision making process, venue, who resources): Corporate Centre
