Temporary food premises

How to register a temporary food premise:  

  1. Complete the Temporary Food Premises application form.
  2. Complete the Food Events Food Safety Program template. (Applicants selling low-risk foods supplied pre-packaged by registered food businesses such as chocolate bars or jams, are exempt from this requirement.)
  3. Submit the completed Temporary Food Premises application form, a complete copy of all the pages from your completed Food Events Food Safety Program and if applicable, the relevant registration fee to the Council’s Environmental Health Department two weeks prior to the event.
  4. The event can only proceed once a registration certificate for a temporary food premises has been received by the applicant / organisation.

How to register a food vehicle:

  1. Complete the Temporary Food Premises application form.
  2. Provide a copy of your Certificate of Registration with your Local Council.
  3. Submit the completed application form with the certificate of registration and if applicable, the relevant registration fee to the Council’s Health Department two weeks prior to the event.

You must contact Bayside City Council approximately four weeks prior to the event to ensure adequate time for approval.

An application form and your Food Safety Events Template must be submitted to Council's Environmental Health Department at least two weeks prior to the event.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

Q. What is a temporary food premises?
A. A temporary food premises can be defined as any marquee, tent, stand, trestle, cart or the like in the open or in another structure used for the purpose of selling food.

Typically, temporary food premises are associated with the sale of food at community markets, special or major open air events, fetes,cake stalls, street stalls (sausage sizzles) and festivals. Temporary events are not permitted to be held on consecutive days.

Q. Does a temporary food premises need to be registered?
A. All temporary food premises, including profitable and non- profitable, are legally required to be registered with Council’s Environmental Health Department.

Q. What is the registration fee?
A. Fees are:

  • $110 Commercial Operators at a non-community event
  • $58 Commercial Operators at a Community event
  • No registration fee is charged if the organisation is a registered charity or a community based not for profit organisation.

On payment of the registration fee, the applicant may apply for up to 12 events per calendar year without any additional charge.
