Computer bookings can be made over the phone, or in person at your local library branch.
Wireless access
Wireless network access is available for free at Bayside libraries.
Bayside Library Service wireless internet access and use
- Presentation of Library card or photo ID is essential.
- Users must be library members. An exception is made for visitors with appropriate ID.
- Children under 18 years must have parental or guardian signed approval to use the Internet.
- Patrons are expected to have a basic understanding of and basic experience in the use of Personal Computers, as staff members are not available to provide extended assistance or support on software.
- Patrons must not make illegal or inappropriate use of the Internet. Inappropriate use of the Internet includes, but is not limited to:
- Destruction of, or damage to equipment, software, or data belonging to Bayside Library or others.
- Display of offensive or inappropriate material. This can include, but is not limited to, pornography, hate sites, gratuitous violence and sites using frequent, highlighted offensive language.
- Intentional unauthorised copying of copyright-protected material or infringement of licence agreements and other contracts.
- The violation or attempted violation of any computer network's system security.
- The violation of the privacy of individuals or entities that are creators, authors, users or subjects of the information resources.
- Unauthorised monitoring of electronic communications.
- Inappropriate use of email services, such as spamming or bullying.
- Bayside Library Service reserves the right to check any patron's use of its Public Internet Service including a patron's data transmissions both sent and received when any member of Bayside Library Service staff reasonably suspects that a patron is in breach of the Internet Access and Use Conditions.
Computer training
All computer training courses are held in the training room at Brighton Library.
Courses vary from semester to semester and cover topics such as:
Full fee paying courses - Computer and Windows XP Getting Started, Microsoft Word 2007 Getting Started and Next Step, Microsoft Publisher 2007, Microsoft Excel 2007, Work with Digital Photos using Windows XP, Buying on eBay, Selling on eBay, iTunes & iPods and Make a Photo Movie using Windows XP.
$5 Demonstration courses include Solve your Family Tree Mysteries, Ancestry Library Edition, Genealogy Databases, Find Articles in Newspapers and Magazines, Email Questions and Answers in Yahoo Mail, Hotmail, Outlook and Gmail, Download e-Audiobooks from the Library.

If you book and pay for more than one of the courses with fees at the same time, you will receive a 25 per cent discount off the total cost.

All courses are:
- conducted by experienced trainers
- include a comprehensive set of notes
- have a minimum of three and a maximum of eight participants (courses with fewer than three participants will be cancelled; if a course is cancelled you will be notified 24 hours in advance and given the option of booking into a future course or obtaining a refund).
- must be paid for at the time of booking (at any of our branches, or over the phone
The courses are specifically designed to cater for those who are new to computers and want to be sure of a more gentle pace of learning.
- Demonstation: suitable for beginners and those with computer experience.
- Getting Started: suitable for beginners who have the stated prerequisite skills (if you attend a Getting Started course, your trainer can advise you as to other courses that will meet your needs).
- Next Step: suited to those who have attended the relevant Getting Started course.
