Careers in local government

Each council varies in size, population, rate base and resources; however, they all have the same objective of representing and acting in the best interest of their communities.

Councils have the responsibility of providing a variety of services to their residents including:

• health and community
• planning and building
• waste and conservation
• recreation, library, arts and culture
• local roads, footpaths and street lighting
• domestic animal management and control
• emergency management planning
