1000 Books Before School

Reading together is the best way to encourage a love of books in your child. Sharing stories with babies and young children helps develop literacy skills that will prepare them for reading at school.

Come into one of our libraries and register for 1000 Books Before School to start your reading adventure.

How 1000 Books Before School works

  1. Come into your local Bayside library with your membership card
  2. Register for the program and receive your first reading record and reading kit.
  3. Mark, colour or place a sticker on your reading record each time you read together with your child.
  4. Each time you reach a milestone in your reading record, bring it in to your local Bayside library for a special reward.
  5. Every book that your child completes, or listens to counts, this includes stories read at:
    • storytime sessions
    • day care
    • playgroup
    • kindergarten.

You can read books from anywhere and read them as many times as you want.

The program finishes once your child reaches 1000 books, or starts school.
