Dredging Half Moon Bay

Access to Half Moon Bay will be restricted for dredging works near the public boat ramp on Tuesday 13 September 2022, subject to weather and tidal conditions.

The Half Moon Bay public boat ramp area is dredged every year to remove sand build-up ahead of the busy summer season, and ensure boats can be safely and easily launched and retrieved during low tides.

The dredged sand will be used to replenish the central area of Half Moon Bay beach. Initially, this sand will be darker in colour and may emit an odour but will match the rest of the beach sand after about a week.

Works are expected to take four days from Monday 12 September 2022, subject to weather and tidal conditions. The boat ramp and public access to the beach will be closed during the dredging process, which is planned for Tuesday 13 September.

Over 500m3 of sand is expected to be extracted and transferred via truck to the central area of Half Moon Bay to renourish the beach.

See Boating Victoria for alternate boat ramps during these works.
