Bayside Libraries closure: Your questions answered

Bayside Libraries are temporarily closed to try to help slow the spread of COVID-19 within the community.

We have compiled a number of frequently asked questions regarding how the service will operate during the temporary closure.

The Library customer service team is still here to support you  10am-5pm, Monday to Friday, on 9261 7840.

We are currently investigating ways to resume some contactless library services as soon as possible.

We already have a vast array of online library services available to Bayside Library Service members right now.


Frequently Asked Questions

The due dates for all checked-out circulating materials will be extended until after we reopen.

At Bayside Library service we do not charge late fees.

Yes. The Library provides a wide array of digital material, including e-books, e-audio, movie streaming service and access to a multitude of online resources through our Digital e-Library.

Access the eLibrary

Return chutes will reopen from 1 June – you are welcome to return your books if you are finished with them. 

The book chutes will be open at Beaumaris, Hampton and Brighton between 8am and 6pm for the immediate future to cater to the volume of books we expect to be returned.

Your reservations can begin to be collected by mid June.

We are currently planning how to safely manage this process and we will provide further information to you when available.

We are temporarily disabling holds on physical items. However, if you were already in the queue for an item, your place in the queue will hold until we re-open.

You can still access and place holds on e-books and e-audiobooks through the eLibrary.

During our period of closure, anyone is welcome to join the Library online and gain access to an array of digital resources, including e-books, audiobooks, movies/documentaries and more.

When we reopen, new applicants can visit their local library to obtain and validate their physical library card.

To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the Home Library Service has been suspended until further notice.

There is no need for volunteers to pick up or return items for now.

Library staff are still answering phone calls Monday-Friday 10.00am-5.00pm on 9261 7840 with any questions you might have about your account.

At this point we are still accepting new item requests for the Bayside Library catalogue.

Library Link Victoria has suspended this service, so we are not taking any requests for loans from other Library services in Victoria.
