Beaumaris Reserve Sports Pavilion
We’re building better sports facilities in Beaumaris to support community sport in Bayside for future generations.
The existing Frank Reade Sporting Pavilion at 88 Reserve Road, Beaumaris is being replaced with an environmentally conscious building that reflects the changing needs of the resident soccer and cricket clubs. The new pavilion will support players of all genders and abilities and provides shelter for spectators.
The pavilion is designed to respond to Bayside’s declaration of a climate emergency and features:
- solar panels
- north facing windows to maximise use of natural light for heating during the winter months
- electric appliances and water heating systems to reduce reliance on natural gas
- sensor lighting and water tanks.
Other design features include realigning car parking within the reserve to ensure no loss of spaces, an accessible car park at the pavilion entry, and unsealed paths to connect all buildings within the heritage precinct. The realignment of the carpark will require the removal of the small playground near the Beaumaris Arts Group building.
The planning of the proposed pavilion carefully managed the protection of vegetation at the reserve. The upgrade does require tree removal, however, an additional ten indigenous trees that will reach 18m tall by 10m wide will be planted. To ensure the reserve maintains its natural leafy environment, native landscaping of the site has been included as part of the pavilion renewal project.
This project is part of Council’s Active by the Bay Recreation Strategy and does not include any works associated with the Beaumaris Arts Group Studio.
The sportsground will remain open during works, and temporary facilities located in the car park behind the Beaumaris Arts Group Studio will enable community teams to continue play while we deliver this much-needed upgrade.
