Budget 2017-18

Council has released its draft 2017- 2018 Budget:

  • A record $45.7 million to build new and upgraded community infrastructure
  • The first instalment in a $162 million four year plan to deliver on the priorities of the Bayside community
  • Debt free by the end of 2017-2018
  • Rate increase of 2 per cent.

Draft Budget highlights

  • $11.7 million to upgrade sporting pavilions at Banksia Reserve, Elsternwick Park Oval 1, Cheltenham Park, Dendy Park, Castlefield Reserve and Chisholm Reserve
  • $3.04 million upgrades to shopping centres including Sandringham Village ($2.38m) and upgrades to Hawthorn Village in Brighton East ($310k) and the Highett Road Activity Centre ($352k)
  • $3 million to start works on the exciting Dendy Street Beach Pavilion and $0.764 million for foreshore and conservation works at Sandringham foreshore and harbour precinct and the Black Rock foreshore
  • $2.2 million for footpaths and bike paths including safety improvements to the Bay Trail at Middle Brighton Baths
  • $1.189 million to upgrade playgrounds at Beach Park North Road, Dendy Park (south) and F. L. Yott Reserve
  • $1.68 million for upgrades to libraries including Sandringham Library ($1.03m) and Brighton Library ($651k)
  • $1.5 million to harvest stormwater at the Brighton Golf Course for Dendy Park
  • $0.54 million on public toilets at Elsternwick Park South and Southey St Sandringham foreshore.


26 April: Draft budget adopted by Council

18 May: Community briefing, Bayside City Council, 76 Royal Avenue Sandringham at 6.30pm-8.30pm

26 May: Submissions close

27 June: Budget adopted
