About

Councillor Jo Samuel-King is a local GP with a passion for people and the environment who believes Bayside is blessed with wonderful parks, beaches and reserves. Cr Samuel-King has been involved in Bayside City Council through her work with the Yalukit Willam (formerly Elsternwick Park) Nature Reserve to preserve this much-loved area. As a Councillor, Cr Samuel-King intends to work with local groups to protect and preserve the invaluable natural and cultural heritage of these spaces for the enjoyment and amenity of all residents.

As a doctor, Cr Samuel-King advocates that social connectedness is vital to health and wellbeing and that grassroots community organisations and volunteering opportunities are an important aspect of social connectedness and well-being. Cr Samuel-King wants to support Bayside to be able to continue to support all types of volunteer community organisations.

Cr Samuel-King has stated that dogs are a huge part of many Bayside residents' lives as over 40% of Bayside households have dogs. She believes there are very few secure dog-off-leash areas in Bayside and has committed to working with the Bayside Dog Alliance to find secure dog-off-leash areas in every ward throughout the municipality.

Cr Samuel-King notes climate change as one of the biggest challenges of our time, and a direct threat to the liveability of Bayside and wants to ensure the Climate Emergency Action Plan is quickly and properly implemented, so Bayside can do its part in this global emergency.
