Councillor Alex del Porto was first elected to Council in 1997 and has fulfilled the duties of Mayor of Bayside City Council in 1998–99, 2004, 2010–11, and 2016–17. Cr del Porto was elected Chair of the Planning and Amenity Delegated Committee for the 2020–21 Council year, is a member of the Bayside Arts and Gallery Advisory Committee and is the Bayside representative for the Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV).
Cr Alex del Porto has been a resident of East Brighton for 35 years. Cr del Porto is married to Donna, has four adult children and two grandchildren. He has a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) and Master of Arts from Melbourne University, with postgraduate qualifications in secondary education from the Australian Catholic University. He has been a teacher of Humanities and Religious Education at Padua College since 2003.
Cr del Porto has a strong passion for protecting the existing amenities and controlling over-development in the Bayside community. He cares deeply for the natural environment and ongoing protection of our heritage and is an advocate of strong financial accountability for Council expenditure. Cr del Porto would also like to see more secure bike paths built, playgrounds enhanced, and the provision of a centrally located public hydrotherapy/warm water pool to cater to seniors.
