The Director Community and Customer Experience role at Bayside City Council is a unique and exciting opportunity to join a sector leading organisation. You'll lead an energetic and collaborative team with a strong driving purpose.

Our opportunity

Roles like this one do not come up very often. Reporting to the CEO, you’ll lead a fabulous, committed team focused on strengthening our community through the provision of frontline services. You’ll be joining at a critical time for our aged care services as we navigate the exciting transition towards being one of the few councils developing a commercially sustainable aged care business.

We are already sector-leading in many of the services we deliver, and as a member of the executive leadership team, you will collaborate to realise our goal of being sector leading.  This will see you setting strategy, providing the clarity and vision that connects and unifies our whole organisation, and monitoring the achievement of our outcomes. Our executive team aspires to challenge itself and the organisation to grow as leaders and be ambitious about our capacity to achieve extraordinary things for our community.

Why the role exists and what it will achieve

In addition to your role in the executive team, you will lead and inspire a high-performing, engaged, and empowered workforce in our largest division, Community and Customer Experience, to improve community wellbeing across all ages, stages and abilities.

To thrive in this position, you'll have

  • experience leading a multi-disciplinary team at a senior level
  • extensive senior leadership experience in a complex service environment, including a proven record in delivering outcomes to meet business, financial and stakeholder objectives
  • proven experience in engaging the community to help the organisation understand issues, co-design potential solutions and assist Council in its decision making to deliver community focused outcomes
  • commercial acumen and an understanding of the relationships and structures in a government setting
  • demonstrated knowledge of aged care and its changing funding and purchasing environment preferred.
  • a degree in Business/Management, Commerce, Community/Arts and Culture, Recreation or a related discipline.

About us

The City of Bayside is 8 kilometres south of Melbourne's Central Business District. It covers 17 stunning kilometres  Port Phillip's coastline and is home to over 107,000 residents. 

At Council, we have a team of 650 and an operating expenditure budget of over $126 million, delivering over 100 services for our community across a diverse range of areas aged services, family services, parks and leisure, libraries, arts and culture, economic development and planning.

Location

We work hybridly. When you are working from the office, our beautiful Bayside location is glorious. Head office has parkland surrounds and the beach within a 500m walk. We even boast beautiful a coastal Indigenous Trail that provides insight into the relationship between our First Nation’s culture and the coastal environment. Whether you are working from home, from the office or out in the field we continue to focus on ensuring our systems and processes enable collaboration and connection.
