Community Visitor

Just one hour per fortnight with complete flexibility! Become a Volunteer Community Visitor and can make a huge difference in the life of a lonely older person South-East and Bayside locations.

Central Bayside Community Health Services (CBCHS) is a not-for-profit organisation providing a wide range of services to support healthy living, general wellbeing and social connection in our community.

The Community Visitors Scheme (CVS) is a government-funded program that matches a volunteer visitor with a lonely or isolated older person living in an aged care facility or in their own home. The Volunteer and resident are matched according to similar interests or background. The visits are regular and purely social, with the intention of developing an ongoing friendship and social connectedness.

Charlotte’s story
Charlotte became a CVS Volunteer to Dory (about 70 years her senior!) in 2022, whilst doing her final VCE year. She has had a wonderful impact on Dory, who had been isolating herself in her room of the aged care facility where she lives. Charlotte has provided more than 20 hours of companionship, creating a very special connection between herself and Dory. They have enjoyed doing art activities, watched movies, and celebrated birthdays together. Best of all, Dory shared with Charlotte that she finally left her room to go and watch a performance in her care home, where she danced with some staff in her wheelchair! Dory has since been on a second outing! Charlotte’s visits have significantly contributed to Dory finding the confidence to increase her own social engagement and overall sense of wellbeing.
