Bundjalung Kunjiel Dance Troupe to perform at 7:30pm

Goompi Ugerabah’s tribe are saltwater people from south east Queensland. His artworks tell stories of his ancestors, but also his experience of living and practicing the cultural stories that have been passed on to him. Goompi expresses his cultural identity through intricate and restrained dot patterns and fluid line.

Goompi's exhibition will be further extended through the song and dance of the Bundjalung Kunjiel Dance Troupe, who will be performing alongside his artworks on the opening night of the exhibition. Goompi started the troupe in 2009, and since then they have presented song and dance throughout Australia and across five different countries over the last six years.

The driving force behind Goompi’s works is well articulated through the following quote,

‘I want to do my best to show our culture to the world and also teach our young to keep traditions alive. Our culture that our ancestors practiced and lived is who we really are, and that gives us our true identity.’
