Throughout May and June, Highett residents will be able to have their say on their hopes for the area into the future.

Events include drop-in sessions, walking tours and workshops where community members can provide feedback on what is needed for open space, retail areas and shops, public transport, getting around the neighbourhood, community services, housing and development.

Council is seeking feedback for its review of the Highett Structure Plan, which determines things like land use, and how Highett will change in the future.

The area around the Highett train station is one of eight similar locations along both the Frankston and Sandringham train lines where Council is working to accommodate population growth in line with state government policy.

Over the next 30 years Melbourne is expected to grow by around 3.4 million people. Bayside is working to accommodate around 20,000 new residents of which approximately 2,000 are expected to move into Highett. It is important that future housing stock meets the diverse needs of our community.

Providing feedback to the Highett Structure Plan review is an opportunity to ensure the area meets the needs of you and your family in the future.

Consultation closes on 30 June 2017.
