We use State Government guidelines and Bayside local criteria to allocate kindergarten offers. These are used when there are more registrations than places available. The first round of offers for a kindergarten place are issued via email on June 1st.
Kindergarten offers are allocated in accordance with state Government Guidelines which prioritise access for children who are vulnerable, at risk, or have a disability.
For information on priority of access eligibility, visit the Department of Education.
All other places are offered in accordance with Bayside's local criteria, continuity and proximity, which are reviewed on an annual basis taking into account feedback from kindergarten teachers, committees, families and guidance from the Municipal Association of Victoria and the Department of Education and Training.
Continuity and proximity criterion weighting is only applied to your first preference kindergarten where there are more registrations than places available. Your child will not be excluded from registering or selection because they do not meet one or all of them.

|Your child's circumstance||Weighting|
|Registration for a place in either the three or four-year-old program where the first preference kindergarten is within a 2km radius to the child’s primary place of care; OR||20%|
|Resident registration for a place in either the three or four-year-old program at a community delivered kindergarten outside the 2km radius of the child's primary place of care. This includes families moving into Bayside that supply evidence of a future Bayside address. Applicable to first preference kindergarten only.||10%|
The bulk of offers, for all on-time registrations, are issued on June 1st .
Offers are emailed to the address provided on the Registration Form on the council website. Families are strongly encouraged to check their inbox and SPAM on June 1st.
Where a kinder is not fully subscribed, all on-time registrations will receive an offer.
Where a kinder is over subscribed, the priority, continuity and proximity criteria are applied, to first preferences only, and the maximum number of places available are offered.
Families have up to 7 days to respond to an offer. Failure to respond will result in an expired offer.
A declined or expired offer from the initial round results in new vacancies which are then offered to the next family/ies on the waitlist (on a day to day basis as they become known).
You will receive an email notification advising that you are on the waitlist for subsequent offers should a vacancy become available. The email will also prompt you to make contact with the Early Years team to discuss options at other kindergartens.
The wait-list applies when a kindergarten has more applications than places. When first round offers are issued, families have 7 days to accept or decline the offer, after which time the offer expires. A declined or expired offer from the 1st round results in new vacancies which are then offered to the next family/ies on the wait-list (on a day to day basis as they become known). Vacancies also result from withdrawals after acceptance.
The Early Years team will work with you to allocate a place for your child.
Where possible, multiple births and siblings who will attend kindergarten during the same period will be kept together.
