Meet bear Maxine Beneba Clarke

Maxine Beneba Clarke (born 1979) is a prize-winning Australian writer of Afro-Caribbean descent.

Our families are separated and strong: volatile and loving. Our lives and stories are just as ordinary, extraordinary, joyous and devastating as those of any other group of Australians, and they deserve to be written into Australian letters. - Maxine Beneba Clarke, ‘Introduction’ to Growing up African in Australia.
