How much is the levy?
The levy is $1.30 for every $1,000 of the estimated cost of the development. Estimated development costs are rounded up or down to the nearest $1,000 when calculating the levy.
This payment is in addition to statutory planning application fees.
The estimated cost of the development to which a permit application relates is $2,356,782. This will be rounded up to $2,357,000 for the purpose of calculating the levy.
$2,357,000 ÷ $1,000 = $2,357
The amount payable is ($2,357 x $1.30) = $3,064.10
When do you need to pay the levy?
You are required to pay when applying for a planning permit to develop land in metropolitan Melbourne with an estimated cost of development over $1,052,000.
What is the process?
- A planning permit application cannot be lodged with us without presenting a certificate that the levy has been paid.
- You must first notify the State Revenue Office that you intend to make an application and state the estimated cost of the development.
- You must pay the levy to the State Revenue Office.
- You will be issued with a certificate of payment, which must be provided to us with your permit application.
How long do certificates of payment last?
Certificates expire after 90 days.
What do I do if the cost of development increases?
If your certificate of payment is valid and you have not lodged your permit application, you can contact the State Revenue Office about the increase. You will need to pay an additional levy to receive a revised certificate.
