Increased revenue from a significant growth in the number of planning applications and new State Government set fees is being reinvested to help drive service improvements for planning applicants.
Bayside City Council Mayor, Cr Alex del Porto said that resources will be directed towards front-line service provision without adding any additional burden to ratepayers.
“Over the past year, Council has been working to significantly improve the service offered by its Statutory Planning Department to ensure a faster, more efficient experience for customers,” Cr del Porto said.
“Over this same there has also been a 27% increase in the number of applications received.
“While significant service improvements have already been achieved, if Council is to maintain the service levels and achieve further improvements, additional resources are required to meet the volume of applications.
“In response Council will direct additional revenues from higher planning fee revenue directly back into providing improved services to planning permit customers.”
Over the past twelve months Council has achieved a 23.48% improvement for the median number of days to process a planning application from 115 days in 2015 to 88 days in 2016.
Improvements have also been achieved on another key measure with the number of planning applications decided within 60 days increasing from 44% in 2015 to 57.99%.
“Over the next two years Council will be working to push for even further service improvements in statutory planning,” Cr del Porto said.
“Reinvesting increased revenue from planning fees directly back into service provision will help position our planning department as leaders in the provision of planning services and work to make Bayside a better place.”
