Santa will lead Sandringham Rotary’s annual Santa Rally this year on a custom designed sleigh built by the Bayside’s Men’s Shed.
The sea of Santas will converge on the Sandringham Football oval for the rally, held on Sunday 26 November at 9.30am, to walk, ride, scoot, pram, run and meander their way to Green Point, led by roving entertainer Paul Jamieson.
Sandringham Rotary approached the Men’s Shed to build a sleigh to tow Santa along the foreshore by someone on foot.
Over a month, members of the Bayside Men’s Shed worked together at various stages to build Santa’s sleigh.
“This project was exactly the type of thing we like to do,” Men’s Shed member John McCartney said.
“The purpose of the Men’s Shed is to bring together a group of guys with a common project in mind.
“While friendship and comradeship are some of the main benefits of the Men’s Shed, we will certainly enjoy seeing this project in action in November.”
Sandringham Rotary Club board member Mark Sutherland said the Men’s Shed did a beautiful job building the 1.5m sleigh.
“This was a great collaboration,” he said.
“We wanted more community involvement in the Santa parade and by working with the Men’s Shed, where members have building expertise; it was a win/win for everyone.”
