Roszkowski works in a variety of media including ceramics, textiles, encaustic and acrylic painting and also teaches. As with all of her creative output, this body of new ceramic work is inspired by the forms, colours and textures of nature, in particular the geological substrata of the earth and the minute, ephemeral details that form the greater whole. Roszkowski presses botanical specimens – such as delicate parsley flowers – into the surface of her clay vessels and uses pale underglazes to apply painterly colour, creating beautifully subtle works that have a robust and earthy quality. The contrast between the delicacy of the surface and the rustic sensibility of the forms gives these vessels a transient quality that evokes the changing nature of the natural world while providing homage to the fleeting elements of seasonal change.
