Library returns and pick-ups are easier than ever for Bayside residents with a state-of-the-art self-service, contactless library smart lockers now located at Hurlingham Park.

The lockers, located on the corner of Nepean Highway and Palmer Avenue, Brighton East, enable members to access 24/7 borrowing and returns with a unique code, making library use simple and convenient.

Cr del Porto spoke of the significance of libraries and the pivotal role they play within our community.

“Libraries are the lifeblood of our community. They provide safe and inviting spaces, are a hub for education and creativity, and promote community connection and wellbeing,” Cr del Porto said.

He also spoke of the importance of increasing the accessibility of this service.

“We wanted to implement a service that fitted into people’s everyday lives – imagine being able to access the library while walking the dog, taking the kids to sports practise, or on the way to or from work.”

This exciting initiative is part of a series of rolling upgrades to the Bayside Library Service. These upgrades were made possible thanks to funding from the Victorian Government – a $92.5K Library COVID Recovery Project grant and $90K from a Living Libraries grant – with Council matching the $182.5K to complete the works.
