Art exhibitions will alter perspectives

Tuesday, October 8, 2019

Bayside Gallery Curator Joanna Bosse said the exhibition transcends the usual gallery experience through the artists’ use of unexpected materials in their temporal-based works, with some works inviting visitor collaboration.

“Artist Elizabeth Willing has lined the gallery with almost two thousand Kinder chocolates for her work Pick-me-up (Kinder). Visitors are dared to touch and consume the artwork, giving them an opportunity to actively participate in the evolution of the work”, Bosse said.

Rhiannon Slatter: Becoming is an exhibition by award-winning photographer Rhiannon Slatter. She has created a body of work that records and reflects the genesis of the new Beaumaris Secondary College, designed by architects ClarkeHopkinsClarke.

Joanna Bosse said Slatter’s abstract photographs reveal the often hidden geometry and beauty within industry, infrastructure and transport settings.

“Her current work is focused on the kinetic nature of growth in Melbourne and subsequent ubiquity of construction and new development in our urban and suburban environments,” said Bosse.

A range of public programs will be presented in conjunction with the exhibitions, including The Big Draw, a free drawing workshop which is part of the world’s biggest festival of drawing, an abstract architectural photography workshop with Rhiannon Slatter on 2 November, 2-4pm and our free self-guided Great Art Detectives activity.

These exhibitions are free and open on Saturday 12 October, 2-4pm.
